In late 2010, GameTap had removed a large number of its console game downloads, including Contra: Hard Corps, due to unresolvable technical issues in the service’s software updates. In GameTap’s case, the emulators and ROM images were downloaded to the client PC in an encrypted form that consisted of segmenting the data into multiple files that were then stored in multiple locations. Typical of emulators, you have various customization options, including controls (keyboard, gamepad, etc.). Like the Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console service, the games run via emulators, thus this version of Contra: Hard Corps is identical to the Genesis version (North American release). In July of 2006, a deal was signed with Konami to provide several of Konami’s console games for download via the GameTap service.
The latter is delivered in emulated form. GameTap is an online video game service that provides downloads of over a thousand games, from PC to console.
